This is the final weekend for Laughfest and it’s also St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday. There are a lot of sport related events...from the Ultimate Sport Show, to Basketball, Hockey and Boxing. We have a Neuroscience Fair and classes about plumbing! We also go back to music from the 90’s for a couple different events.

Some activities include the kids, while others are more for the adults.

    Gilda’s LaughFest, the nation’s first-ever community-wide festival of laughter, has quickly earned a reputation for being one of the nation’s marquee events for both participants and artists. Created by Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids and launched in March 2011 to celebrate laughter for the health of it, the festival features stand-up, improv, showcases, and a variety of seriously funny stuff.     Michigan’s finest tradition for the avid fisherman, hunter or outdoor loving family! Exhibitors will be at the show with the latest in outdoor gear, travel information and fishing boats. The features are famous: World Class Taxidermy, Antique Lures, Trout Pond, Hawg Trough, Woodcarvers, Fishing Simulator and Rock Wall. Nearly 100 fishing and hunting seminars will be held on 5 stages, including “Lake Ultimate,” the 110,000 gallon indoor lake.

    St. Patrick’s Day is on Sunday, March 17th, but the partying will go on all weekend at various locations. Irish on Ionia happens on Saturday on Ionia Avenue in Downtown Grand Rapids. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is Saturday morning at 11 am. It starts at the Monroe Center Mall (49 Monroe Center St., NW).

    Brain Awareness Week Neuroscience Fair

    Cost: The event is free with paid admission to the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

    Visit the Grand Rapids Public Museum for Michigan State University’s Brain Awareness Week Neuroscience Fair. Meet scientists and learn about the marvels of the brain – from how it looks and feels and works – to how to keep it healthy – to why brain research is so important. See, feel and examine a real human brain. Conduct deep brain stimulation surgery on a gelatin brain. Extract DNA from a banana and bring it home in a test tube. See brain tricks and learn how the brain produces optical illusions. Conduct brain safety experiments with raw eggs to learn the importance of wearing a helmet. Create a model of a nerve cell, or neuron, and all of its components. Dress like a scientist and pose for a photo in the Science Selfie Photo Booth. This interactive exhibit is part of Brain Awareness Week, a worldwide celebration of the brain for people of all ages, focused on increasing public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research.

    This Basic Plumbing Workshop takes you through a study of the two water related systems in the home. First is the supply system which brings in the fresh water and second, the drain system for removing waste water. Participate in a hands-on training to repair leaky faucets, toilets that keep running and how to connect various types of supply lines.
