Recently it was announced that Ben and Jerry's was going to start selling an ice cream called "Schweddy Balls", named after a famous Saturday Night Live Skit starring Alec Baldwin. Most people loved the idea, and I know of a lot of people who have tried, and really like, this particular flavor of frozen dairy goodness.

But, not every one is so keen on the idea. A website called OneMillionMoms.com is encouraging their members, and people everywhere to write letters to the Public Relations Manager at Ben & Jerry's requesting that they stop distributing the ice cream.

I take issue with this on so many levels. A) I highly doubt that you have 1 million members, onemillionmoms.com. B) If you don't agree with it, don't buy it! C) Do we have to stop distributing everything that you find questionable?

Here's the thing: stores probably sell all sorts of things that this group doesn't agree with. Condoms. Alcohol. Playing cards. Rap albums. Movies that are rated anything above "G". Why do they have to pick on the icecream?

In their little manifesto on their website, the group says,

Ben and Jerry's announced their newest ice cream flavor which sounds anything but appealing.  Schweddy Balls is the best they could come up with. The vulgar new flavor has turned something as innocent as ice cream into something repulsive. Not exactly what you want a child asking for at the supermarket.

The go on to talk about the company's other "controversial" ice creams. The also take issue with the fact that last year, in a gesture of support to the gay community, the company released a special edition of their Chubby Hubby ice cream called "Hubby Hubby". They follow that statement up with saying that they feel that it's an annual tradition for Ben and Jerry's to "offend" customers.

Guess what? I'm not offended at all! And neither are most people. Are they going to keep their kids from playing any sport with the word "ball" in the name. Are they going to keep their children away from the ball pit in play areas because, you know, the word "ball" is in the title? No. They just want a reason to complain. Their very selective in the things that "offend" them.

Do you see a problem with Schweddy Balls ice cream?
