As an EMT-Medic, I have delivered a couple of babies where babies are NOT suppose to be delivered.  Everywhere from boats to bar restrooms, seriously!  But this is a really cool story, no pun intended.  As last weekend's winter storm quickly turned into a blizzard across northern lower Michigan, there was no "holding off" on having a baby!  Greg and Jessica Porter started the dangerous journey from East Jordan to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City but baby Bradley couldn't wait!

The Porter's got as far as Elk Rapids and decided to call for help due to the icy roads.  Village of Elk Rapids Officer Michael Courson helped deliver Bradley in the Porter's vehicle, my hometown newspaper The Record Eagle reported.

The evening continued for the Porters by finishing the trip in the back of a North Flight ambulance as the relatively long journey to the hospital during the nasty weather rolled on.  And speaking from experience as a driver & medic from Traverse City, those things are NOT comfortable at all, especially in bad weather.  I can only imagine how this poor lady was feeling.

The Porters spent Sunday night at Munson and were discharged Monday — Greg Porter's birthday.

"This is the best birthday present," he said of his 8-pound baby boy with a full head of hair. "It's a good story for the whole family."

Baby Bradley will have quite the interesting story to tell... once he learns to talk.
