Several media outlets as well as the Michigan State Police are reporting that the body of a St. Joseph County woman missing since 2010 has been located.  On Monday, the remains of Venus Stewart were believed to be found in a shallow grave, near Fulton in a rural area of Kalamazoo County, ending a search that has spanned several years and bringing closure to a case that gained nationwide attention when her estranged husband, Doug Stewart, was convicted for her murder in 2012. Since then, efforts to locate her body had been unsuccessful.

The Sturgis Journal broke the news that Doug Stewart led authorities to the remains of his estranged wife today, eight years after murdering her. According to MLive, police are confident the remains are Stewart's because of information in the investigation and other items found at the location. No other details were immediately available.

Venus Stewart separated from her husband in February of 2010 and eventually gained full custody of their two daughters before moving from out-of-state and back into her parent’s home in Colon. She was 32-years-old when she was killed outside that home. Venus had last been seen alive on April 26th, 2010.

We will provide more details on developments in this case as they become available.
