Here’s When The Butterflies Will Return to The Frederik Meijer Gardens in 2024

There is something magical about being surrounded by butterflies swirling around you while you take in the sights and sounds of the Meijer Gardens. And one of their most popular events is returning in 2023 with a new twist.

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is thrilled to announce the return of its beloved Fred & Dorothy Fichter Butterflies Are Blooming exhibition for its 29th year. As the largest temporary tropical butterfly exhibition in the United States, this highly anticipated event promises to showcase the breathtaking diversity and intricate beauty of butterflies and moths.

Running from March 1 to April 30, Butterflies Are Blooming invites visitors to immerse themselves in the mesmerizing world of lepidopteran flight and witness the exquisite patterns adorning their wings. The enchanting setting for this visual spectacle is the Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory, a lush environment that enhances the overall experience.

This year's exhibition promises a global journey, featuring over 60 butterfly and moth species from Africa, Asia, and Central and South America. Set within a five-story, 15,000-square-foot glass house, this tropical haven provides the perfect backdrop for these vibrant winged wonders.

Visitors will encounter a kaleidoscope of species, from the dazzling blue morphos and stealthy clearwings to the majestic Atlas moths and elegant tree nymphs. Each butterfly and moth contributes its unique brushstroke to a living canvas of color and motion.
