On Friday, November 18, the cast of Hamilton on Broadway delivered a powerful yet respectful and measured message to Vice President-elect Mike Pence, a man who has openly expressed his anti-LGBT hate by making statements blaming "societal collapse" on same-sex couples as well as his advancement of legislation which allows businesses in Indiana to discriminate against members of the LGBT community based on religious grounds.

Following Friday evening's performance of the hit show, actor Brandon Victor Dixon recited a letter penned by show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, telling Pence, "We, sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights."

Across Twitter, reactions have been mixed, of course, but many have expressed their support (and gratitude) for the cast taking a moment to address the controversial audience member.

"Look who wants a f---ing safe space now. The very thing him and his supporters make fun of as liberal political correctness. God, what a POS," Chrissy Teigen wrote in one tweet, while New York City mayor Bill de Blasio commended the cast, writing, "Bravo to the @HamiltonMusical cast for respectfully encouraging VP-Elect @mike_pence to work on behalf of ALL people."
