Barring a Christmas miracle, you will be left standing at the station if you were planning a holiday train ride this year in Michigan.

Perhaps you know the beloved Christmas movie 'The Polar Express' has a Michigan connection. The blueprints of the locomotive Pere Marquette 1225 were used as the prototype for the magical train in the Tom Hanks film. Every holiday season, true believers can take the voyage from Owosso to the small village of Ashley and enjoy a Country Christmas celebration before the return trip.

Sadly, all 2018 North Pole Express trips are sold out. Likewise, Indiana's Polar Express will not be able to punch your ticket this year and are already filling passenger cars for the 2019 season. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is another Christmas tradition that often travels through Michigan on its Yuletide voyage but the route this year skips our Winter Wonderland altogether.

All are indeed aboard for the holiday trains in 2018. Maybe this is the year your family starts a new holiday tradition.
