City Of Grand Rapids Expects To Open Three Of Six Pools This Summer [VIDEO]

The City of Grand Rapids revealed a $115 million budget proposal for 2012-2013 on Tuesday.  The proposal includes over $400,000 to run Grand Rapids pools this summer.

Like the last two summers, three pools would remain closed.  The pools at Briggs, Martin Luther King Jr., and Richmond parks will be open for seven weeks.

The city’s wading pools at Campau, Cherry, Garfield, Wilcox and Westown parks also will open, as will water playgrounds at Aberdeen, Alger, Gerald R. Ford, Heartside, Joe Taylor, Mary Waters and Mulick parks.

Grand Rapids again will charge a fee to swim in the pools slated to open. Fees are not yet finalized, but will be similar to last year, said James Hurt, the city's director of public services. Last year, city residents were charged $2 to swim, and non-residents were charged $5.

In recent years money from private donors was needed to operate the pools.  This year, all money will come from the City of Grand Rapids.
