Everyone is looking for a way to stay cool in West Michigan.  Splash pads and Lake Michigan are popular choices while fans and air conditioners are working overtime.  This heatwave was so strong on Thursday that it pushed demand for electricity from Consumers Energy to an all-time high.

Consumers Energy customers pushed energy usage to 8,887 megawatts on Thursday between 2pm and 3pm.  The previous record of 8,883 megawatts was set on August 1, 2006.

Consumers Energy has been around for 125 years, so reaching an all-time high is quite an accomplishment.  Of course, there are more customers (1.8 million) and air conditioners than ever before, but at the same time air conditioners are more energy efficient than they have ever been.  Let's hope that we don't come close to setting another record anytime soon.
