The next time you're in the U.P., here's another interesting route to take, although most routes up there are interesting anyway.....the small ghost town of Dafter in Chippewa County has plenty of abandoned buildings to check out.

Even though there are a small handful of residents left in Dafter, the stillness of the downtown area can be somewhat unsettling, even in daylight (SEE PHOTOS).

Dafter is near the Waiska River and was founded in 1879 as a lumber camp by the name of Stevensburgh. In 1893 the town's name was changed to 'Dafter' after the Township. It's located on W. 10 Mile Rd, just off I-75, 48 miles north of the Mackinac Bridge and 11 miles south of Sault Ste. Marie.

There are plenty of other cool little towns surrounding Dafter that are worth seeking out..........like Brimley, which is 10 miles northwest.

Add these little out-of-the-way places to your next Michigan roadtrip!
