Yup, you read the headline right.

David Archuleta is on a mission. Not a mission toward pop stardom, but a mission from God.

Monday night, during his concert in Salt Lake City, Utah, he announced that he will be taking a break from music to serve his church as a Mormon Missionary. He said that he will be taking a 2 year hiatus to follow this calling. The announcement gained him a standing ovation from the crowd (not surprising considering the large Mormon population in Salt Lake City).

David was the runner-up in season seven of American Idol, and has been recording and touring ever since.

Archuleta released his third studio album, The Other Side of Down, in 2010. He turns 21 on Dec. 28.
