An incident in Montcalm County left a sheriff's deputy injured and one suspect dead Friday night.

The shooting happened in the 8000 block of Townline road, according to WZZM-13. Officers were attempting to serve an arrest warrant for an assault. That's when 40-year-old Travis Quay came out of his home with a crossbow and shot the deputy. Police returned fire killing the suspect on scene.

The deputy was flown to Grand Rapids for surgery, and is reported in serious condition (according to a WOOD-TV 8 report).

Neighbors tell the media the entire incident started over missing marijuana plants. Several altercations allegedly took place during the day on Friday, one where the suspect was reported to have used a pitchfork to assault a neighbor.
