So did you hear it?

Just after 9:30 pm Tuesday night, the Facebook group, We Are Westsiders, one of the group's members posted:

"Anyone in Walker hear that loud boom about 9:32? It sounded like an explosion..."

Well, it wasn't just Walker that heard the noise.  Responses came all along the west side, as far east as Leonard and Fuller and south as 36th and Clyde Park.

Sarah R. said it shook her house at Richmond and Remembrance. She wasn't the only one as a few others also said their houses shook and their dogs went crazy.  But was it just thunder? Yes, it was raining, but everyone responding to the group post definitely thought it sounded different from thunder.

Jim M even posted "Scanner just said they were looking have not found anything". so what was it?!

Dawn S mentioned it could be a "frost quake."

So I did a quick Google search and found this on Wikipedia:

cryoseism, also known as an ice quake or a frost quake,[1][2][3][4] is a seismic event that may be caused by a sudden cracking action in frozen soil or rock saturated with water or ice.[5] As water drains into the ground, it may eventually freeze and expand under colder temperatures, putting stress on its surroundings. This stress builds up until relieved explosively in the form of a cryoseism

Whatever it was, it was loud, and I didn't think it sounded like thunder either. Could it have been a frost quake? A wreck on 131 or 196?? Or just dumb ol' thunder? Did you even hear it?

So. Many. Questions.
