While you can cheap out on a few things for back to school… this is something that it’s NOT worth saving a few bucks on!

WNEM is reporting that crayons sold at Dollar Tree are testing positive for Asbestos.

According to WNEM, The U.S. Public Interest Research Group (U.S.PRIG), a consumer advocacy group, conducted the tests on 36 different packs of crayons for sale and found the Playskool brand, which is also sold online at Amazon, eBay, and dollardays.com, contain trace amounts of Asbestos, which if you’ve ever watched any daytime or cable tv, you know that it’s known to cause mesothelioma and other cancers.

Hasbro who owns the Playskool brand told WNEM,

"The safety of our customers and associates is our top priority.  Our company utilizes a very stringent and independent testing program to ensure our supplier products meet or exceed all safety and legal standards. We are aware of the report and have since re-verified that each of the listed products successfully passed inspection and testing."

As a spokesperson for U.S.PRIG told ABC NEWS,

"We know how to produce crayons without asbestos and most crayons are free of asbestos."

So instead of saving a couple dollars now when back to school shopping, save your kid’s health by not buying the cheap-o crayons at Dollar Tree.
