The city of Rockford has issued a boil water advisory for the city. In addition, some schools have been closed to prevent students from getting sick.

As of right now no reports of illness have been reported. Over the Labor Day weekend one of the pumps broke at the water treatment plant causing about 2,000 households and 400 businesses to be affected by the E. Coli possibility.

Schools that are closed today are as follows:

  • Meadow Ridge Elementary
  • Parkside Elementary
  • Valley View Elementary
  • North Rockford Middle School
  • River Valley Academy
  • Child Care (administration building)

 

Residents have been warned to use bottled or gallon water for drinking, cooking and brushing teeth.
