You may not give too much thought about your door latch on your car but you may want to now because Ford has recalled over 828,000 vehicles in the United States and Mexico because of faulty door latches.

According to Ford's website, these faulty pieces can break which will prevent the door from latching and in some cases cause the door to open while driving.

The affected vehicles include:

  • 2013 to 2015 Ford Escape SUVs
  • 2013 to 2015 C-MAX cars
  • 2012-2015 Ford Focus
  • 2015 Lincoln MKC
  • 2015 Mustang
  • 2014 to 2016 Transit Connect

The risk is even higher in states with warmer climates so the main focus of recalls are in those states. You can see the list here.

One accident and one injury has been associated with the issue.

If your car is part of the recall you can take it to your local dealership and they will replace the door latches for free.
