As a millennial myself who moved here almost 4 years ago I can't say I'm surprised by this. A new study found that Grand Rapids is the SECOND most popular city millenials are moving to.

Before we dissect this a bit, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) defined millennials as people born between 1980 and 1998 (21- to 39-years-old). The study looked at the number of millenials moving from one state to another between 2017 and 2018 and compared the top 100 metro areas in the U.S.

In the last year, 73% of millenials moved to the 'Grand Rapids-Wyoming' area and made up 27% of the U.S.'s total population in 2017. The NAR refers to Grand Rapids as:

...a more affordable area than most of the areas with a strong employment growth.

The average income of those millennials who are new to Grand Rapids is about $53,000 and can afford to buy 22% of the homes currently on the market. The average median income for millennials [in general] in G.R. is $56K.

The only other city beating Grand Rapids when it comes to "millennial movers" is Madison, WI at 75%.

Overall, the study found that millennials are more likely to move to and stay in metro areas where employment opportunities are strong.
