Recently named the "Hottest Real Estate Market to Watch in 2016", Grand Rapids is proving it's bringing in the people.

According to new census information, the Grand Rapids metropolitan area is the fastest-growing in the state.

The U.S. Census Bureau released figures on Thursday showing the Grand Rapids metro area, which includes Barry, Kent, Montcalm, and Ottawa Counties grew .9 percent July 2014 to July 2015, WZZM-13 reports.

Michigan's population overall is up .06 percent to 9,922,576.

In terms of real estate, Grand Rapids topped Trulia's list of the cities with markets that are likely to prosper in 2016.

Cities were examined for affordability, strong job growth, and factors like vacancy rates, to determine which areas will experience growth in the year ahead.

According to Trulia:

Grand Rapids hits the sweet spot in terms of affordability and job growth; it ranks as the 14th-most affordable in the U.S. and 22nd-strongest in job growth over the past year.

Grand Rapids is home to the Fulton Street Farmers Market, in operation since 1922; today it hosts roughly 11,000 shoppers a week and boasts nearly 200 vendors. With a walkable downtown, a vibrant arts scene, and a rich food and craft brew culture, it’s easy to see why Grand Rapids is Trulia’s top city to watch in 2016.”
