One of our favorite websites, WalletHub.com, put together a list of the best and worst cities for first-time homebuyers.  Not surprisingly, Grand Rapids made the list.  But what is surprising, is that we are so high on the list despite it being really hard to actually purchase a home because the market is so hot.

The Best 5 Cities For First-Time Home Buyers

  1. Broken Arrow, OK
  2. Tampa, FL
  3. Centennial, CO
  4. Boise, ID
  5. Grand Rapids, MI

Grand Rapids wasn't the only Michigan city that made Wallethub's list of the Best Cities For First-Time Home Buyers!  It wasn't on the top of the list though...

The Worst 5 Cities For First-Time Home Buyers

  1. Berkeley, CA
  2. Detroit, MI
  3. Flint, MI
  4. San Francisco, CA
  5. San Mateo, CA

The methodology used to rank the cities was based on three main metrics: Real-Estate Market, Affordability, and Quality of Life.  Grand Rapids ranked pretty high in affordability and real-estate market, but we were right in the middle of the pack when it comes to quality of life.

Detroit and Flint both ranked really low on quality of life and real-estate market, but both cities had decent ranks for affordability (not surprisingly.)
