While in some parts of Michigan you may have to worry about having your car stolen by the likes of Kia Boys or other criminals. Meanwhile in another part of Michigan, you may have to worry about your horse being stolen while you stop off to grab some stuff.

That's what happened over the weekend in south west Michigan. In a bizarre twist on January 20 in Sturgis, a 31-year-old woman decided to steal an Amish buggy and horse while its owners shopped inside at Walmart.

Now we all know of Grand Theft Auto, but what is it called when you steal a horse and buggy? Grand Theft Amish? Grand Theft Buggy? (Someone please let me know)

According to a release from the Sturgis Police, a vigilant truck driver witnessed the theft and promptly alerted authorities, providing a description of the daring buggy bandit. Thankfully for them, Police had encountered the suspect earlier at Walmart and had an idea of who they were looking for.

Later that same evening, an officer discovered the abandoned stolen buggy and horse on E. Chicago Rd. That's when police tracked down the suspect to a nearby motel, where she was arrested without incident. Apparently she only needed a temporary ride, and wasn't willing to go amish full time.

The woman now faces charges of larceny and larceny of livestock, and is spending some time thinking about what she did in the St. Joseph County Jail. Fortunately, the horse was unharmed, and the buggy was returned to its owners, so we have a happy ending. But next time, maybe this criminal should stick to calling for a ride instead of trying to take one on a horse that wasn't hers.
