‘Hug the Wood’ to Listen to Finnish Forests at ArtPrize [Video]
The sound of the forest and animals can be heard while walking through the hanging wood, but the sound is enhanced by hugging the wood and placing your ear against it to hear how the sound travels through the wood.
Ihalainen is a sound artist, sound designer and audio engineer from Helsinki, Finland. The sounds heard in her ArtPrize entry were recorded in Finnish forests. She chose the dominating frequencies in the recordings and plays them back through vibrations in the pieces of wood which act as the speakers.
