Ionia Schools Closing Thursday for Teacher’s Funeral

Ionia Public Schools have cancelled classes for Thursday so that students and staff can attend the funeral of a teacher.

Kim Stewart was an early childhood special education teacher with Ionia Public Schools. According to the district, she passed away Saturday after a long battle with an illness.

Visitation for Stewart is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

The district expects many people in the community including teachers and students at the school will want to attend Stewart’s funeral, so they made the decision to cancel classes for Thursday.
