IRS Phone Scam Alert In Ottawa County

If you live in Northwest Ottawa County heads up about a phone scam in your area.

Police are warning residents to not fall for a call where the caller tells you that you owe money to the IRS and if you refuse to pay, they will send the Spring Lake Police department over to your house to arrest you.  They’re even cloning caller ids to show as the Spring Lake branch of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s office.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office say the calls are definitely fraudulent and that the Spring Lake police department has been closed down since 2014, when the sheriff’s office took over patrolling both the village of Spring Lake and city of Ferrysburg.

Remember if you do actually owe money to the IRS, they will send you a notification via the US Postal Service.  They work together to keep each other in business.
