Michigan has a lot going for it that make it an awesome vacation destination: great beerbeaches, food, festivals, and more!

But where is the very best hotel in Michigan? According to a survey of Travel and Leisure readers, it's in Birmingham.

In searching for the best hotel in each state, the travel magazine found the The Townsend Hotel on the outskirts of Detroit to be the No. 1 in Michigan.

Readers were asked to rank hotels on value, service, location, amenities, and attention to detail.

According to the hotel's website, guests "can enjoy a traditional Afternoon Tea, an impeccable dining experience at the Rugby Grille Restaurant and a gourmet coffee and handmade scone at The Townsend Bakery."

Egyptian cotton sheets, a 1,100 square foot fitness facility, and in-room spa services are a part of the guest experience as well.

The Detroit Free Press describes The Townsend Hotel, which opened in 1988, as "swanky".

A Travel and Leisure reader says, it's "the best place to stay in Michigan, period!”

What do you think? Is the Townsend the best hotel in Michigan? Or has somewhere you've stayed got it beat?
