SmartAsset has studied communities around the nation and put together their list of the “Top 10 Healthiest Housing Markets”. The healthiest housing market in the country goes to a community just outside of Cincinnati, OH called Edgewood, KY. Two west Michigan communities fall into that Top 10...Jenison and Forest Hills.

According to SmartAsset a healthy housing market is "one that shows stability, affordability, and in which homeowners are able to easily sell their homes with a low risk of losing money over the long run".

Seven of the top 10 markets in the U.S. are located in the Midwest. Michigan scores three cities in the top 10. Along with Jenison and Forest Hills, the Detroit suburb of Clawson, MI comes in at number 10 on the list.

In developing their Top 10 list, SmartAsset looked at many different factors including the percentage of homeowners with negative equity; the average time a for-sale home spends on the market; affordability as the monthly cost of owning a home and other factors.

Here is the complete Top 10 list for 2017:

  1. Edgewood, KY
  2. Mesquite, TX
  3. Northridge, OH
  4. Concord, MO
