Funny how Kelly Clarkson's new cover of "It's Quiet Uptown" from Hamilton has amounted to clamorous sobbing across the internet.

Clarkson, who most recently debuted her own "Magical Lullaby" in tandem with her children's book release, appears on Lin-Manuel Miranda's dream collection of Hamilton covers called The Hamilton Mixtape. The whole album is still awaiting release in completion, but the "Piece by Piece" singer's contribution made its way to streaming services today (November 4) as a sneak peek, and it's already causing quite a stir.

Miranda's soft, strings-heavy ballad, which appears in Act 2 of Hamilton, is a commiseration of sorts between the show's titular Alexander Hamilton character and his wife, Eliza, who are mourning the death of their son. Originally performed by Renée Elise Goldsberry, the tune immediately drew critical acclaim upon its 2015 release, with The Los Angeles Times critic Charlies McNulty noting "No contemporary musical has touched grief in a song as profoundly as 'It's Quiet Uptown,' which I'll confess is impossible for me to listen to without tearing up."

And Clarkson has quite clearly done it some real justice, if early Twitter-reviews are to be trusted:

Clarkson joins the likes of Sia, Alicia Keys, Usher, Regina Spektor and John Legend on the star-studded Mixtape. Miranda has said that each featured artist's inclusion is a "dream come true."
