Kid Rock For Senate? One State GOP Member Says ‘You Betcha!’
In an attempt to catch some of the wind left behind by Donald Trump's successful run to the presidency last fall, the GOP has set their sights on winning back a Michigan seat in 2018.
Could Kid Rock excite the voters like Trump did?
The seat currently held by Democrat Debbie Stabenow will be up for grabs in the mid-term election in 2018, and the GOP would love to snag it back, so they started tossing some names around this weekend at the State Republican Party Convention in Lansing.
One of the names brought up? Michigan rock star Kid Rock.
Rock, whose real name is Robert Richie, was a vocal supporter of Trump during his campaign and his name was bandied about by Livingstone County Tea Party member Wes Nakagiri.
"I'll bet you he would generate as much excitement as Trump did," Nakagiri told the Detroit Free Press at the convention.
The Senate certainly could use some shots of Jack Daniels, served up on one of Kid Rock's two on-stage bars, which are usually surrounded by strippers during his shows. Nothing says GOP Family Values more than strippers!
Of course he does have a couple of US flags on stage with him as well, plus a smoke spewing longhorn skull, which would liven up the State of the Union address.
Richie, who has often described himself as a liberterian, grew up in Romeo, the son of an upper middle class automobile dealership owner. He has yet to comment on the 2018 Senate race.
Other people mentioned in the discussion for the Senate seat included Rep. Fred Upton of St. Joseph (who also has show business links -- his niece is supermodel Kate Upton, who dates Tiger starter Justin Verlander), and former State Senate Majority leader Randy Richardville of Monroe.
By the way, why stop there with Michigan musical political candidates? I think Violent J and 2 Dope of the Insane Clown Posse would be great Congressmen. They already have a huge voting base to draw from. And Eminem would make a great Secretary of State.
