It's the time of year for love! Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and that seems to be a time when a lot of couples get engaged.

Of course, in this day and age, it's a toss up between whether the man or woman will propose. Hell, guys have even started wearing "mangagement" rings!

But, there's a new trend on the rise in the U.S.: men taking their wives' last name, or hyphenating their last name to incorporate both.

Traditionally, women have taken their husband's last name, which I'm sure goes back to the whole "love, honor, cherish, and obey" thing, but I could be wrong. But these days, it seems that men are comfortable enough with their manliness that they're willing to take the woman's last name if the circumstances are right.

In most cases, it has everything to do with work and kids. If the woman is well established in her career and the man isn't, in many cases men are now opting to change their last name. I mean, I could change my name if I were to ever get married, but it could be confusing. "Who's the Wendy [Boyfriend's Last Name] on the radio? She sounds a lot like Wendy Reed."

In some cases, it also has to do with children, and wanting everyone in the family to have the same last name.

What do you think? Is this a trend that you would ever take part in? Or do you like things just the way they are?
