You can say this for Lindsay Lohan: Homegirl just does not quit. The sometime-actress, who hasn’t appeared in a film since Gus Van Sant’s 2013 quasi-softcore-thriller The Canyons (was it really only three years ago?), has tried her hand at a few failed enterprises in the last few years, including her recent baffling effort to create a new, vaguely exotic accent. But there’s one project Lohan hasn’t abandoned. Like Gretchen Wieners desperately clinging to “fetch,” Lohan is hellbent on making Mean Girls 2 happen — by force, if necessary.

CNN recently conducted a Facebook Live interview with Lohan, in which she discussed George Michael’s passing, her work with refugee orphans and…Mean Girls 2. Lohan has been talking up a potential sequel for a few years now: Back in 2014, she told Time Out London that she shared her sequel idea with Tina Fey (who wrote and co-starred in the 2004 cult classic), and that the film would be “an older version where they’re all housewives and they’re all cheating.”

In her recent CNN chat, Lohan remains more determined than ever — perhaps a little too determined, but at least she dropped that ridiculous accent:

I have been trying so hard to do a ‘Mean Girls 2.’ It is not in my hands. I know that Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels and all of Paramount are very busy. I will keep forcing it and pushing it on them until we do it.

Mean Girls 2, like “fetch,” will probably never happen. Long-delayed sequels are typically a bad idea (see also: Zoolander 2, Anchorman 2), and while some of the cast members would probably be down to return, others — like Rachel McAdams and Lizzy Caplan — may be a bit too busy to revisit characters they played over 10 years ago.

But Lohan isn’t giving up. She says she’s already written a treatment for the sequel, and as for which actors she’d like to see in supporting roles, Lohan adds, “I would love to have Jamie Lee Curtis and Jimmy Fallon in the movie.” A girl can dream.
