I'm a little upset about this so I'll ask this question...Do some of the ignorant celebrities never learn?

Eight years after the slip of Janet's privacy created a Super Bowl mess, a more commonly exposed body part is causing a stir.  M.I.A., a guest "performer" during the Madonna lip-syncing fiasco, shot up the middle finger. This is obviously the right choice for a woman to make when she knows millions of kids are watching. The screen blurred after the images made their way into millions of homes.

“The NFL hired the talent and produced the halftime show,” NBC spokesman Christopher McCloskey said, via an interview after the game. “Our system was late to obscure the inappropriate gesture and we apologize to our viewers.” Still, no excuse to even allow people like this on stage. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said that “The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologize to our fans"... Uhhh, do you think?

Though this dumb woman, who is irrelevant to me did not pull this childish act during rehearsals, it still should have been prepared for. Some no name acts looking to achieve "notoriety" or "street cred" in highly watched moments like this will always be inclined to do something stupid.  So the best system for preventing such incidents comes not from having censorship, but a strong refusal to take any chances.  At a minimum, the contracts should contain stiff financial fines which include not getting paid at all for anyone who does an ignorant act such as this.  Regardless, the NFL should always be leery about people on stage at an event like this... especially when you have someone on stage who is known for being this way.
