The mayor of Rochester Hills is not particularly happy with Madonna's opinion of her hometown.

In an interview with Howard Stern earlier this month, the Michigan native called Rochester Hills ”simple minded and full of provincial thinkers.”

Mayor Bryan Barnett responded Monday with an open letter to the singer, in which he discussed the city’s achievements and said it’s quite different than the place she grew up.

“I don’t know if I’ll change her mind,” Barrett said. “But I want those who have read her remarks to know that’s not what we’re about here in Rochester Hills.”

The mayor also extended an invitation to the singer, "I invite you back to Rochester Hills to see who we are and what we believe in. While we certainly don't need your stamp of approval, I am quite confident we would earn it."
