UPDATE (April 9, 2024 - 2:00 p.m.): According to the Consumer's Energy outage map, all power has been restored. 

ORIGINAL STORY: Consumer's Energy has reported that there is currently a large power outage in the city of Grand Rapids and surrounding areas.

The outage reportedly started just before noon on Tuesday, and the outage map currently states that the expected time of restoration is around 4:45 p.m.

In total, the outage is affecting around 10,000 homes and businesses in West Michigan. It is also affecting traffic lights.

The affected areas include parts of Grand Rapids and Grand Rapids Township, East Grand Rapids, Ada Township, and Cascade Township.

The official cause of the outage is listed as "equipment failure".
