The Michigan Department of Transportation is asking for volunteers to help monitor West Michigan road conditions this winter.

"Road Watchers" will be asked about highway conditions and how well the roads are being maintained following winter storm events. MDOT will use that information "to more efficiently deploy winter maintenance forces and identify best practices."

Help is wanted in Allegan, Ionia, Kent, Montcalm, Muskegon, and Ottawa counties on these stretches of highway:

  • I-96 in Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, and Ionia counties
  • US-131 in Montcalm, Kent, and Allegan counties
  • I-196 in Kent, Ottawa, and Allegan counties
  • US-31 in Muskegon, Ottawa, and Allegan counties
  • M-6 in Kent County

Road Watchers will be polled randomly and asked to participate in an online survey about road conditions. All results will be anonymous.
