Just for having the correct six numbers, tonight's estimated jackpot for the multi-state Mega Millions was $636 million -- or $341.2 million with the cash option.

The estimated jackpot for Mega Millions on Tuesday night was flirting with the record U.S. lottery jackpot of $656 million, awarded by Mega Millions on March 30, 2012, and split by three winning tickets in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland.

Channel 95.7 offered an opportunity to join in on sharing the potential winnings for its ticket for Tuesday night's drawing. Those numbers were 5, 6, 12, 55 and 58 and the Mega 12.

The winning numbers announced by Mega Millions were: 8-14-17-20-39  Mega Ball 7

The odds of winning the jackpot are about one in 259 million. The odds of winning any of the Mega Millions prizes are about 1 in 15.

Strong sales are credited for the increase from the initial estimate of $586 million. The jackpot has been rolling since it was last hit in Maryland for $190 million on Oct. 1, according to Mega Millions officials.

The $1 million second-tier prize is a new feature of the game – substantially larger than the previous second prize of $250,000. On Friday, $1 million winning tickets matching the first five numbers (19, 24, 26, 27 and 70) but not the Mega Ball number (12) were sold in Michigan, Florida, New York, Colorado, Connecticut and New Jersey.

By the way, the last Michigan winner of the Mega Millions was Dick Zelasko, of Troy. He claimed the $80 million Mega Millions jackpot from the July 5 drawing.
