Michigan Sisters in Amber Alert Found Safe in Colorado

Michigan State Police say two girls from Berrien County who were the subject of an overnight Amber Alert have been found safe in Colorado, and their father is now in police custody.

The Michigan State Police issued the alert after the discovery of the bodies of a man and woman in a home in Coloma Thursday night.

A family member drove by the home around 9:15 p.m. and noticed that one of the windows was wide open. Upon entering the home, the family member found the bodies.

When troopers arrived, they learned that the two daughters of one of the victims were missing -- Nova Perez, 4, and her three-year-old sister Luna. Police also found that a tan 2003 Chevy Impala had been taken from the home.

State Police issued the Amber Alert for the girls and their biological father, Alex Perez, 24.

Early Friday morning, a Clear Creek County Sheriff's deputy spotted a suspicious vehicle with lights on and engine running in a parking lot in Georgetown, Colo. The deputy has state that upon investigating, he discovered a man and two children inside the car. The deputy radioed in the car's Michigan license plate, and learned that the car was wanted in the Amber Alert and on a felony warrant for Alex Perez on charges of double homicide and parental kidnapping.

Perez was arrested after a short struggle, and the girls were taken into protective custody. Neither of the children were harmed.

Perez is expected to be extradited back to Michigan.
