The Michigan State Police will be taking steps to help motorcyclists stay safe on the roads this year.

WZZM-13 reports the pilot project will give out specially designed high-visibility vests to riders who complete a training class in 2015.

The Michigan Office of High Safety says that only 5 percent of Michigan motorcyclists wear high-visibility clothing when they're out on the roads, they expect to hand out around 9,000 vests this summer.

Studies show that a bright yellow-green color stands out the most, this is the same color used for police, emergency medical personal, and construction workers.

Classes begin in June, find more information here.
