Youth and young adult homelessness is a bigger problem than many know, because being a young adult, you can couch surf, meaning you’re not seen on the street.  That doesn’t mean you’re safe though, many people are coerced into unwanted situations because that person gave you a place to crash.

That’s what makes the news of Covenant House Michigan opening a ray of hope.

WOODTV reports, the faith based Grand Rapids non-profit is hoping to help homeless, runaway and at-risk youth and young adults aged 18-24 by giving them a place to live and access to improving their life.

The shelter is three stories and has 28 private bedrooms as a computer area and café, a lounge area and laundry facilities.  Covenant House’s mission is to be more than just a shelter, they want to help the residents with getting access to education, healthcare, employment and permanent housing, according to WOODTV.

Covenant House is located 26 Antoine St. SW.  When they started moving residents in at the end of November they said they already had a wait-list of over 50 people.
