Currently, Michigan is the only state in the union in which it's legal for police to have sex with prostitutes during an investigation, but a proposed bill could change that.

Michigan Radio reported last month that the law is one that very few were aware of until a few years ago. They spoke to Bridgette Carr, the director of the Human Trafficking Clinic at the University of Michigan, who said that she became aware of Michigan's law when Hawaii phased out a similar law a few years ago.

Michigan Radio and Carr also pointed out that a lot of law enforcement officers aren't even aware that the law is in place, and even if they do know about it, no one takes advantage of the exemption.

Carr has been working with Michigan state Representative Gary Glenn to introduce a bill that will end the exemption. The bill was introduced last week.

The bill, HB 4355, has been assigned to the House Law and Justice Committee, but no hearing has been scheduled on the matter.
