The Michigan State Police are on the hunt for an inmate who escaped from police custody Monday morning.

The man escaped after fashioning a comb into a shank and repeatedly stabbing a Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy in the neck.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig released details Monday about the case and how 25-year-old Abraham Pearson - who also is known by the alias Derreck White - escaped from the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice.

Pearson was at the courthouse for sentencing on Monday morning when he stabbed the deputy, which triggered a panic alarm around 8:05 a.m.

According to police, Pearson then walked out of the courthouse wearing the deputy's uniform around 8:20 a.m. and then carjacked a woman. Minutes later, he was involved in an accident and fled the scene on foot.

Pearson is 5-foot-6 and 155 pounds, according to police. Police said he is armed and dangerous.
