This morning I woke up in the dark, which is normal, since we don't generally sleep with the lights on. But, it was really dark. No power. Turns out 5,000 other homes on Grand Rapids northeast side were in the same boat. And now we know why.

Consumers Energy is saying that this morning's outage was likely caused by a raccoon that crossed a switch. As of 7:30 a.m. power had been returned to all that were effected.

The outage, which happened around 5 a.m. affected residents between Paris Ave SE and Maryland Ave and as far north as Spencer Street and as far south as Alexander Street.
