Pregnancy, Teeth, And Dog Walking – Steve’s Daddy Tips (5-20-20)

If you have a toddler who has been cooped up because of the quarantines, you might have a little one who is asserting his or her dominance.  Here are some tips on how you can trick them into thinking they are still in control, but also get them to do what you want.

1. Today’s first Daddy Tip is for all of those parents who are expecting and also happen to have a toddler at home. Protect that baby bump! Charlotte still doesn’t quite understand that mommy has a baby inside of her, so she still thinks she can roughhouse with her. Luckily, we haven’t had any bad incidents yet, but Charlotte has been rough with Britt by trying to dive on her. So we have been extra diligent when Charlotte is around Britt to make sure she doesn’t accidentally hit the baby bump. Toddlers don’t know what’s going on, so just be extra careful anytime they are within a couple of feet of a pregnant lady.
2. The next Daddy Tip is how to get your toddler excited about brushing their teeth. We just switched over from infant toothpaste to the kids stuff for Charlotte and she does not like the new flavor. Her tooth brushing went from something she enjoyed doing to a chore every night, so to get her to enjoying it again I had her focus on the part a kid would like the most, the spitting! She always covers her mouth when I say it’s time to brush your teeth but after I say spit, she uncovers right away and spits and is ready to start brushing. Good job baby girl!
3. And the final Daddy Tip of the week is another way to trick your kid to make your life a little easier. We’ve been going on a lot of walks since the quarantine started and we like to bring our dog Kobe too, but whenever we do, Charlotte is so far up his butt wanting to hold the leash and be in charge that he doesn’t even enjoy them. So I came up with a fantastic trick to make Charlotte think she is in charge but still allows for Kobe to have a good time. I bring two leashes and I hook one up to Kobe and the other to my belt loop. I give the leash on my belt to Charlotte and all of a sudden Kobe can enjoy himself and Charlotte thinks she’s in control. Sure, I get pulled in two directions sometimes, but at least Kobe can enjoy his walk.
