Project To Connect Parchment To Kalamazoo Water System Begins
Efforts to help residents in Parchment and areas of Kalamazoo County's Cooper Township have safe drinking water again continue as a major project is underway Tuesday. "G" Ave. from Mt. Olivet Rd. to North Riverview Dr. will be closed so crews can begin hooking up the Parchment water system to the City of Kalamazoo system. This is meant to be a temporary solution so PFAS can be flushed from Parchment’s system, but there is a possibility it will become a permanent fix.
In the meantime, Parchment residents will continue to receive bottled water, after PFAS levels last week were found to be over 20 times the health advisory level. The DEQ says that they have identified an area were PFAS might have been used, and they plan on testing water at that location.
A public meeting is being held tonight at the Haven Reformed Church at 5350 N. Sprinkle Road in Kalamazoo to update the people of Parchment and Cooper Township who are being affected by this water crisis. It begins with and open house from 5:00 to 6:00 pm and the actual meeting takes place from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. We will have reporters at the meeting and will provide the latest updates during and following the meeting.
