PS22 Chorus Covers Nicki Minaj’s ‘Marilyn Monroe’

The kids from Staten Island’s PS22 Chorus have paid tribute to iconic actress Marilyn Monroe on what would be her 86th birthday with a performance of the Nicki Minaj track ‘Marilyn Monroe.’

The song is one of the most mainstream tracks on Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded’ album. The mid-tempo ballad features no rapping, which made it easy for the PS22 kids to tackle the cover, which Minaj shared on her website.

Backed up by a piano, the kids sing, “It’s like all the good things / They fall apart like Marilyn Monroe / Truth is we mess up / Till we get it right / I don’t want to end up losing my soul.” One girl gets the honor of performing a solo during the chorus. At the conclusion of their performance, the kids shout a personal birthday message to Marilyn.

Established in 2000, the PS22 chorus consists of 65 students from Public School 22 in Staten Island, New York. The chorus has been featured on Oprah and even the Academy Awards. Their YouTube page includes hundreds of performances of popular songs, some of which even featured the original artists. David Cook and Gym Class Heroes are among the acts that have performed with the kids.
