Avoid being on Kent County's naughty list this year and properly recycle all of the holiday stuff that quickly adds up.

The Kent County Department of Public Works (DPW) sent out a news release with do's and don'ts when it comes to recycling this season.

...it’s also the time of year when our waste drastically increases – almost by 25 percent nationwide,” said Lauren Westerman, Kent County DPW’s Resource Recovery educator.

The following items CANNOT be recycled:

  • Artificial Christmas trees
  • Bubble Wrap
  • Wrapping or Tissue Paper
  • Holiday Lights
  • Batteries

The following items CAN be recycled:

  • Glass Bottles
  • Cartons
  • Cardboard
  • Metal Cans
  • Plastic shopping bags

Electronics can also be recycled and you can find a list of drop-off locations here.

If you are planning on recycling your real Christmas tree, make sure everything is removed off of it first. Here's a breakdown, city by city in Kent County, on how and where to recycle your tree.

You can always get more info by visiting the Kent County DPW site.
