Cemeteries, funeral homes and mortuaries are creepy places to some people, but that's scary good news for home buyers.

Trulia Research says that homes within a quarter-mile of cemeteries, funeral homes and mortuaries are usually available at a discount compared to other homes in the area. They analyzed the top 100 metro areas in the country. Allentown, Penn. leads the way with average home discounts of 13.6 percent.

We asked researchers at Trulia how the value of West Michigan-area homes are effected. They told us Grand Rapids/Wyoming metro area homes are 6.6 percent cheaper when near a cemetery, funeral home or mortuary.

There are many factors to consider, but a home's value is usually negatively effected by being in close proximity to a cemetery, funeral home or mortuary. New Orleans is the biggest exception with a home's value rising by 6.9 percent.

House hunting is a major undertaking. If living near a cemetery, funeral home or mortuary doesn't bother you, it could be worth taking a closer look at homes in those areas.
