I’m willing to bet that every single working woman in Hollywood has had at least one encounter with sexual harassment. We’re learning more and more how prevalent it is in the showbiz industry in particular, and as you go further back in time the rate exponentially increases. Which is why, when CBS Sunday Morning’s Lee Cowan tentatively asked Sharon StoneBasic Instinct star Sharon Stone — if she’d ever experienced anything of the kind, she sat there and laughed for a good 10 seconds straight.

I mean, what did he expect?

“I don’t know how to ask this in a delicate way, but were you ever in a position like that, that you felt that you were uncomfortable?” Cowan asked after bringing up Time’s Up and the Golden Globes. When Stone started laughing, he said, “You’re laughing, but I don’t know if that’s a nervous laugh or [an] ‘Are you kidding me? Of course I was’ laugh.”

“I’ve been in this business for 40 years, Lee,” Stone said when the bout of hilarity had passed. “Can you imagine the business I stepped into 40 years ago? Looking like I look, from Nowhere, Pennsylvania? I didn’t come here with any protection. I’ve seen it all.”

Speaking about her new Steven Soderbergh series Mosaic — a career comeback for Stone after she suffered a stroke in 2001 — she described how it has something to say about women’s relationships with men: “We were raised to accommodate men, particularly in my generation, and women so often lose their own identity to the identity of the men that they’re with. They even change the way they dress and what they do to fit to the men that they’re with.”

Mosaic is currently available as an interactive smartphone app, and will be broadcast on HBO in a more linear fashion starting January 22.
