  • Ed Dobson - Pastor Emeritus, Calvary Church
  • Adam Bird - The Geek Group

Ed Dobson and I chat about his coming to the US from Northern Ireland in 1964, his first impressions of the country, going to school to become a surgeon and then following a "calling" to become a pastor, working with Jerry Falwell, what brought him from the south to Grand Rapids, his most memorable moments at Calvary and working with Rob Bell at Calvary during his early days.

We also discuss his diagnosis of Lou Gehrig's Disease in 2001, how that diagnosis affected his faith, his film series "Ed's Story," about the positive impact a phone call from his friend, Billy, had on him shortly after his diagnosis and his book "Year of Living Like Jesus" and some of the experiences in it, learning to forgive, finding one's purpose in life, and more…..

I'm also joined by The Geek Group, board member, Adam Bird. Adam and I chat about The Geek Group's mission and what it offers, their new facility at 902 Leonard St NW, the types of projects that people can work on there, how you can join, what makes someone a "geek," how they work with and engage members around the world, and more….

I'm really looking forward to introducing you to folks around West Michigan every week who are helping to positively shape our area with their music, their art, their bold business ideas, and the causes they're passionate about!

Tom and Jake Scheidel also join me to chat about the 8th annual Jake's Music Festival to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. We talk about the eclectic group of musicians that will be performing, about some of the important things people should understand about Juvenile Diabetes, and those who help make Jake's Music Festival possible.
