A semi truck crashed into an electrical pole at a Grand Rapids intersection and knocked out power to buildings throughout the downtown area Tuesday morning. The crash happened at around 10:30 a.m. at Michigan Street and Diamond Avenue.

As of noon today, more than 285,000 Consumers Energy customers statewide were without power caused by a snow and ice storm over the weekend. That includes nearly 70,000 in Grand Rapids and West Michigan, according to the Jackson, Mich.-based utility.

Ice combined with snow has led to numerous power outages in West Michigan. Since noon Saturday, more than 175,000 Consumers Energy customers have been affected by electricity outages in Michigan.

As high winds continue across West Michigan, thousands remain without power.

This weekend's storm has hit northern Michigan hard. Over 180,000 customers were without power this morning in northern lower Michigan.

Want to get some back-to-school shopping done tonight?  You'll have to wait until another day to visit Woodland Mall. Woodland Mall has lost power and is closed for the night. Macy's, Sears, and JCPenney are not effected by the power outage and are operating under their regular business hours.

This mornings storms caused severe damage across West Michigan.  Fallen trees have led to closed roads, damaged cars, and one death in Cutlerville.  The winds and fallen trees have also caused nearly 90,000 power outages across the state.

Hate having to deal with calling the power company when there's an outage? That's now a problem of the past! At least it is if you have a smart phone. Consumers Energy customers can now report a power outage and get restoration times from smart phones...
