The Aurora Borealis, a light show along the northern horizon caused by sun flares, will be visible this weekend, and it looks like the weather will cooperate.

The National Weather Service has indicated that significant geo-magnetic flares will be present tonight (Friday June 1) through early tomorrow, Saturday, June 2. These flares will continue into Saturday evening as well.

As usual, the farther north you go, the better your chances of avoiding light pollution from Grand Rapids and other cities to give you a clear shot.

The Facebook group, Aurora Hunters of Michigan, will be hosting an event in Traverse City, if you're inclined to travel north to get some photos.
