The Weeknd has a packed schedule these days, but he's still making time for what's important to him. In August, fans were left wondering what happened after the singer backed out of his scheduled performance at the 2017 MTV VMAs, but it turns out he apparently skipped the show to support his girlfriend, Selena Gomez.

The female pop star recently revealed that she underwent a kidney transplant due to complications from lupus, which led to the "Starboy" singer making sure he scheduled his tour accordingly to be right by her side. A source tells People Magazine that he not only moved around dates on his tour for the procedure, but it was the reason for him skipping the awards show at the end of last month as well.

“It was a super serious operation,” the source shares, “and all her friends were worried.”

If you recall, it was previously reported that The Weeknd skipped the awards show because he "didn't feel like" attending and was tired from his recent tour.

Earlier this week, Gomez admitted to having the kidney transplant, after one was donated by her actress friend, Francia Raisa. The surgery caused Gomez to miss out on promoting the new music like "Fetish" with Gucci Mane that she released this year. While fans expressed their worries to the singer, she assured them that she is recovering well and will be sharing more of her journey soon.

Meanwhile, The Weeknd is already back on the road once again, as he rolled out Phase Two of his Starboy Tour earlier this month with Gucci Mane, Nav and French Montana joining him.

Salute to The Weeknd for being there for his girl in her time of need.
